Our History

  • Welcome to North Glendale!  North Glendale Elementary School opened in the fall of 1938 and currently has the highest enrollment of elementary students in the Kirkwood School District.

Two years later the north and south wings were added. In 1964, the south addition was constructed and the gym was rebuilt, moving the school office to its present location in the center of the building. Renovations resulting from a district bond issue in 1993 include technology infrastructure, air conditioning, ADA compliance, library renovation and interior upgrades in the bathrooms and halls.

In 2005, the community approved Proposition I, a two-part bond initiative that provided funds for improvements and infrastructure repairs throughout the district as well as funds to complete the district’s master facilities plan. Prop I improvements at North Glendale include new domestic/fire lines, new fire alarm system, new roofing, tuck pointing, new exterior doors, new ADA lift in gym and new plumbing.

NG often serves as a community focus for its namesake city of Glendale. The school and city have established a strong partnership for the purpose of combining resources to benefit children and instruction. Combined efforts and partnerships between KSD, North Glendale PTO, and the City of Glendale have resulted in our school playground which also serves as a school/community park area, our updated track and field, and our outdoor learning Pavillion. We appreciate our partnerships with the Glendale community and the NG PTO!

NG is proud to be a school where teachers and support staff are dedicated to doing what is best for students. The school has set high academic and behavior expectations for all. AT NG, students, and staff honor this school pledge daily: "As a learner at North Glendale I will be: cooperative, respectful, responsible, honest, and I will persevere." Through the efforts of dedicated staff, highly supportive PTO and parent community, North Glendale has established a nurturing, welcoming learning community in which all children learn and grow.
