• How-To For Grades K Thru 2

Dates for 2022-23 school year will be available after August 2022

    Helpful Links appear in RED

    1. Science projects need to belong to the student
    2. Consider the needs of the student’s grade level when deciding how much to support your child
    3. Discuss Steps of the Scientific Method so the child understands how to proceed with work on a collection, experiment or observation.
    4. Review the Engineering Design Process so the child understands how to proceed with work on a Maker project (invention, engineering, or model)
    5. Allow the student to decide on a project they understand and can complete on their own
    6. Provide support and reminders for completion of the Application Form
    7. Assist in review of grade level appropriate Scoring Rubric to address judging points
    8. Provide support and reminders for selecting project type, project category, and providing assistance with completing the Research Plan Form and Safety Form
    9. Provide support by writing or keying in the student logbook as they dictate (assistance to be noted in logbook)
    10. Provide assistance with using PowerPoint
    11. Provide assistance with electronic submissions

SPECIAL NOTE:  We follow the same protocol as that used by the Academy of Science St. Louis Science Fair.  That means we use the same forms and scoring rubrics for consistency in qualifying projects to advance to the ASSLSF event.

Unlike the AASLSF, Kirkwood offers a Non-Judged Option for students that wish to participate without the competitive aspect.
