Course Description
Students taking Photojournalism I learn to operate a digital SLR camera, using all manual settings. Photographic composition and developing a photographic eye are key outcomes of the course. Photography assignments and activities are based on the principles of both photography and journalism. Media law and ethics, as it applies to photojournalists, will be studied. No equipment or previous photography background is needed, only an interest in photography and photojournalism.

Goals & Objectives
- Students will produce photographic works. This requires learning how to use a digital camera and manual settings, composition of shots, and editing of photo images.
- Students will present perceptions and ideas regarding professional photography. This requires evaluating professional work and applying professional techniques to their individual work.
- Students will comprehend and evaluate visual works. This requires identifying quality photographs, use of documentary photography, and the story being told in the work.
- Students will read and evaluate technical materials. This requires comprehension of material related to the camera and photographic journals.
- Students will participate in formal and information presentations and discussions. This requires communicating ideas, learning of others' perspectives, and developing/revising individual work.
