Qualified participants will be eligible to advance to the annual Academy of St. Louis Science Fair on-line event.

    1. ALL PROJECTS WILL BE ELECTRONIC
    2. No team projects
    3. Teachers may submit a “Class” project of three or more students, but only for grades K through 4
    4. Only one project per student
    5. Students are required to fill out and submit a “Research Plan Guide” for KIRKWOOD pre-approval of their project before starting
    6. All submissions (forms, logbook and project) MUST be sent from student’s email
    7. Body of email MUST include student's full name, school, grade, teacher's full name
    8. Research Paper Division – for projects on bacteria, virus, fire, or hazardous materials.  Students may NOT handle, sample, or test, but can study available data from reliable sources and submit a Research Paper limited to five pages, double spaced

All students will have from Novembr 10 to December 8, 2021 (four weeks) to complete a Research Plan.  That is to be accompanied by a parent-signed Safety Form and sent to STEAMFestForms@kirkwoodschools.org for review.

Kirkwood will review these materials and email student approval between December 9 and December 17, 2021.

Once the student receives Kirkwood's approval, they will have from December 20, 2021 to February 16, 2022 (more than about eight weeks) to complete their project.  Projects without pre-approval are not eligible to advance to Queeny.

Students must submit their virtual project by email for Kirkwood judging no later than February 16, 2022.  No late submissions will be accepted.

Kirkwood’s judging will be completed by February 28, 2022.  Between March 1 and March 3, 2022 Kirkwood will email results to students with a copy of their rubric and instructions on how to proceed to ASSLSF.

Kirkwood will share the judging results by email, our district website, and social media.

Students qualifying to advance to The Academy of Science St. Louis Science Fair event will then register their projects online between March 4 to March 17, 2022.  Students will have approximately 4-1/2 weeks (March 17 to April 21, 2022) to tweak their projects if they wish.  ONLY original projects judged and qualified by Kirkwood may be submitted to the ASSLSAF.  Students may not totally re-do their project or create a different project.  The deadline for students to upload projects with the ASSLSF is before noon of Thursday, April 21, 2022.
