• Meet the Teacher:  This is a night when the kids come to the classroom…bring their school supplies and meet classmates.  Information Court is going on in the Cafeteria at the same time. If you ordered the classroom supply kit through PTO, your supplies will be delivered to your child's classroom.

    • Information Court:  A one-stop shop to get information on the school year building-wide!  You can donate to WE GIVE!, learn about Westchester Cares, find out about and join clubs, order Spirit Wear, and more!  This occurs on the same tnight as Meet the Teacher.

    • Welcome Back Coffee:  The first day of school from 8:30-9:30 a.m. parents gather after drop off in the south gym.  Non school-age siblings are welcome.  It’s a great chance to meet new people, hug a new kindergarten mom, or just chat with old friends.

    • WE GIVE!  This is one of three fundraisers that occur for the Westchester PTO.  A donation of $35/student assists PTO in providing teacher grants, field trips, yearbooks, etc.  Anything that exceeds the goal is designated toward educational or building enhancements.  This program allows corporate matching and occurs primarily in the August/September.  You can make your donation at Information Court or any time during August/September.

    • Intake Conference Nights:  These are parent-teacher conferences held about a month into the school year.  There is usually free daycare by the Girl Scouts in the library.  This is intended for parents to have the opportunity to discuss their goals for their child and not so much about feedback from the teacher.  Feedback from the teacher will occur during the mid-year conferences.

    • PTO Meetings:  These are held the 2nd Tuesday of the month in the Library.  Everyone is welcome and there is typically free child care in the cafeteria.  At these meeting Principal Ricker, the teacher representative, PTO president and committee heads give reports.  If you are new to the school it’s a great way to learn more about what the events at school entail. There is often a speaker to discuss a new topic relating to our children’s education.

    • Adventure Club:  This is our before/after and early release school program to assist families with parents to accommodate schedules.  It is tuition based with various pay scales for various needs.  Check it out at www.kirkwoodschools.org under the Adventure Club tab for more information.

    • Greentree Parade:  Westchester is known for having a great student/family turn out at the Greentree Parade.  Families are typically asked to donate candy the weeks prior the parade for the students to give out along the parade route.  There is a theme every year and a float is designed accordingly.  Your whole family is welcome to walk…not just your Westchester student.

    • Picture Day:  There are two a year…fall and spring.  The spring one is often for retakes or students who transfer throughout the year.  Students participate in the fall picture day so they can have their picture in the yearbook.

    • Book Fair/Ice Cream Social/Fitness Walk:  The Book Fair goes on all day and supports the library.  The Ice Cream Social is in the evening and is a FREE event for families sponsored by PTO.  There is a Fitness Walk after school and kids earn punches for their Walkers Club.  This is a popular event and occurs both in the fall and the spring.

    • Art To Remember:  This is a fundraiser for the Art Department and your participation is voluntary.  Dr. Beckerle utilizes the funds to support art education and to enhance the building.

    • Cultures of Westchester Night: An evening where members of our community come and learn about the many different heritages, cultures, and traditions of our WE families.

    • Fall Parties:  Weather permitting the kids walk the block from Woodgate to Cherry to Missouri wearing their costumes in an all school parade.  Many parents try to stand in front and get the class picture by the Westchester signage.  There are usually lots of chances for photos on Missouri Avenue.

    • Family Fun Night:  This is a much anticipated family event and the PTO’s 2nd fundraiser.  This evening there are carnival like games in the classrooms and gyms where kids have loads of fun and collect prizes.  There is a Silent Auction with baskets and sign up parties.  Most sign up parties are kid parties (i.e. PE teachers host the popular obstacle course, Principal for a Day) but there are usually one or two adult parties as well.  It’s a fun night…but busy!

    • Parent Teacher Conferences:  Typically are in January and are about 20 minutes long.  This is the conference when you get feedback on your child’s progress.

    • Kindergarten Registration:  January is Kindergarten Registration month!  Spread the word.  The earlier people register the sooner they can determine class sizes!

    • Trivia Night:  This is our third PTO fundraiser.  It is a highly anticipated adult night with trivia, silent auction, live auction, sign up parties and FUN!  This event has sold out the last few years.  It is usually in February at the Kirkwood Community Center.  Tables are typically made up of 4 couples that you can form or the committee can help you find a table.  It’s also a great committee to join and meet new families.

    • Kindergarten Orientation:  This is for incoming Kindergartners and their families.  While the kids go to the classroom and sometimes on a bus ride; the parents stay and get information from teachers, counselors, school nurse, and PTO.

    • Field Day:  This is a MUCH talked about event amongst the children!  K-2 in is the morning and 3-5 in the afternoon.  Our PE teachers coordinate a day of awesomeness and parents support them by working the booths.  Typically, they ask if you are volunteering that younger siblings stay at home.  Be sure you send sunblock!
