Unified Night Lights

Unified Night Lights
  • The Kirkwood School District (KSD) is hosting the fourth annual unified flag football event. The event, “Unified Night Lights,” recreates the excitement of a traditional football game night – an iconic event in American culture. On Wednesday, October 16 at Kirkwood High School (KHS), hundreds of students will come together in a unified flag football event. In a unified game, people with and without disabilities play together – side-by-side – shoulder-to-shoulder. The philosophy behind the event is that sports help provide a path to friendships and understanding and help break down barriers. The inaugural event was held in September 2016 and some 200+ students participated in the event.

The event is free and open to the public.

October 16 is also “World Food Day.” World Food Day is a day of action dedicated to tackling global hunger. People from around the world come together to declare their commitment to eradicate worldwide hunger from our lifetime. In recognition of World Food Day, non-perishable food items for KirkCare will be collected to help stock the pantry for the fall and winter months. KirkCare supports families in the KSD with food and utility support. At least one out of six KSD students suffer from food insecurity. Those that donate will receive a raffle ticket for prizes to be given away during the event including gift cards to Downtown Kirkwood, Turkey Day tickets, and Chili Bowl tickets.
