Kirkwood High school offers an Extended School Year program (ESY) for its students during the month of June. The program consists of credit recovery and credit enhancement courses. You may enroll in either credit recovery or credit enhancement-not both. Both programs require strict attendance-lack of attendance will result in students being dropped from the course.

    Credit Recovery

Credit recovery courses are designed for students who fail a core class (Social Studies, Math, English, & Science) and must retake the class to meet a graduation requirement. Courses run 4 hours in length for 16 days.

The dates for Credit Recovery are May 29th through June 18th. This would include the following Fridays - 5/31, 6/7 and 6/14.

If you are enrolled in Credit Recovery, you are ineligible to take Credit Enhancement courses in the month of June.

    Credit Enhancement

    Kirkwood ESY Enhancement Courses

    • KHS will be offering Lifetime Fitness, Health and Personal Finance.
    • Health, Personal Finance and Lifetime Fitness will be ONLINE ONLY for credit enhancement through KHS. Students will take the courses online, via Schoology. These courses will be taught by KSD teachers, using Kirkwood School District curriculum.
    • Use the link below to sign up for a Kirkwood Enhancement Course.
    • Dates for the Kirkwood Enhancement courses are 5/28 through 6/25.
    • Rising Freshmen (Class of 2028) can NOT take Personal Finance.

Enhancement Sign-up for Summer 2024 is now closed

REMINDER: Credit enhancement – Students who have not failed a core course can take a credit enhancement class. Any student enrolled in credit recovery is ineligible to take a credit enhancement course. You may only enroll in 1 credit hour (2 courses) during ESY.

Priority for enrollment is given to rising senior students who need the course for graduation.  Enrollment is based on graduation year and time stamp. Students can take one course for ½ credit or two courses for 1 credit.

    Launch Classes 2024

    Launch Summer session dates:

    Session 1: June 3–28
    Session 2: July 8–August 2

After KHS enrolls your student with Launch (a virtual school created by Springfield Public Schools), a student enrollment report will be sent to their KHS gmail account.  This report will be emailed 3-5 days before the start of the class.

The student enrollment report from Launch will look like this and contain this information:

Students will use the assigned google account information to create their new SPS/Launch account. Students will need to use a browser different than the one they associate/use with their KSD gmail/google account. For instance, if a student uses Chrome when accessing their KSD google account, the student will need to use Firefox or Safari when creating their Launch account. This account will be separate from their Kirkwood google account.

If you wish to take a course through Springfield Public Schools and their Launch program, you must sign up through KHS ENHANCEMENT SIGN UP link from above.

**IMPORTANT REMINDER for June and July LAUNCH Classes… Students that don’t log in during the first two days of their class will be automatically dropped from the course.

Parents can visit the Launch Parent Portal website to create an account. To log in, use the Launch Parent Portal account information provided in your student’s enrollment report.

Parents can also create a “Canvas Observer” account. This is separate from the “Parent Portal” account. Visit https://launch.instructure.com to login to Canvas. If you don’t know your observer password, you can reset it by visiting https://reset.fueledbylaunch.com and enter your username.

If parents or students need help with any account or technology issues when using the Launch and/or Canvas platform, please contact Launch support at: support@fueledbylaunch.com, or call (417) 523-0417.
