• A K-3 Literacy Plan was developed in Fall 2019, including a comprehensive framework and action steps to guide instruction and ensure all students are reading at or above grade level by the end of third grade.  This document serves as a companion piece to the new Missouri Literacy Plan (August 2019), developed by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).  The Kirkwood plan also aligns with building-based literacy goals at each elementary school.  A more comprehensive K-12 literacy plan will be shared with the Board of Education in April.

Kirkwood’s Literacy Plan is modeled after the Missouri Literacy Plan, organized around five key components:

    • Leadership & Sustainability
    • Standards-Based Curriculum
    • Intentional Instruction, Intervention, & Enrichment
    • Assessment
    • Partnerships

The Kirkwood K-3 Literacy Plan, last updated in 2019, can be found in the window below.  The October 2019 Board presentation is viewable by scrolling to the bottom of this page.
