Kirkwood High School Welcomes Over 200 Students from Partnering School District Schools for Special Olympics Event
Over 300 high school student volunteers supported over 200 fellow students in a Special Olympics event held at Kirkwood High School on Thursday, May 2. The event welcomed students from four school districts, representing 18 schools across the St. Louis area.
After the Opening Ceremonies, which included a visit from the St. Louis Blues mascot Louie and the singing of the National Anthem by KHS 9th grade student Sara Enders, students were welcomed by KHS senior Lucy Monroe and Dr. Seth Harrell, KHS principal.
“We are so proud to host this amazing event where we celebrate diverse-abilities, inclusion, unity and acceptance,” said Harrell.
Lucy shared her excitement for the day. “We are ready for a great day. Enjoy your time at our school and we are so glad you could be here today,” said Lucy.
Participants rotated through track and field running, throwing and jumping events, visited “Victory Village” for carnival-style games, and enjoyed lunch.
The event is sponsored in part by Accent Group Solutions and the KHS Pioneer Parent Organization.
