Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Kirkwood Early Childhood Center in the Kirkwood School District
On Thursday, November 17, the Kirkwood School District (KSD) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Kirkwood Early Childhood Center (KECC). In attendance were KSD school board members, school and district staff, KECC students and parents, and community members.
The ceremony celebrated the completion of construction at KECC. Recently completed construction at the Kirkwood Early Childhood Center includes a new secure, ADA accessible vestibule to improve visitor management, accessibility and safety improvements. Future improvements include additional and updated security cameras around the perimeter of the building.
Kirkwood School District superintendent Dr. David Ulrich spoke about the specific projects at KECC, and how these projects have made KECC safer and more secure. "Here at KECC our youngest learners start their educational journey. Safety improvements include a secure, ADA accessible vestibule to enhance visitor management, renovations to the office space and relocation of main offices to the front of the school, dedicated therapy space, and improvements to traffic flow and allow families to drop off and pick up directly at their classrooms. To ensure they can do that more comfortably, we’ve installed a lighted canopy around the building.”
The project is one of many made possible thanks to the community’s support of Prop R, which was approved by voters in April 2021. Funds generated from Prop R will provide additional classrooms, security upgrades and accessibility improvements at all schools in the Kirkwood School District to address overcrowding.
