Kirkwood School District Board of Education Candidacy Filing Opens December 7

At its recent meeting, the Kirkwood Board of Education announced filing information for the annual school board election to be held on April 5, 2022. Two positions for director of the Kirkwood Board of Education will be decided. The two board members whose terms expire in 2022 are Darnel Frost and Mark Boyko.

The opening date for filing for the annual school board election is Dec. 7, 2021, at 8 a.m. It will continue through regular business hours Monday-Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (except 12:30-1:30 each day). Filing will end Dec. 28, 2021, when the office will be open from 3-5 p.m.

Filing will not occur on days that the school district offices are closed for inclement weather. Additionally, District Offices will be closed Dec. 22 through Jan. 3 for winter break, with the exception of the final day of filing on Dec. 28 when the office will be open from 3-5 p.m.

For those filing on the first day (Dec. 7) ballot order will be determined in the order in which they are filed.

Persons interested in filing for the two open positions may do so in the Office of the Superintendent at the Administrative Services Center, 11289 Manchester Road. Masks are required in the building.

To be eligible for the Kirkwood Board of Education, an applicant must:

  • be a citizen of the United States,
  • be a resident taxpayer of the Kirkwood School District,
  • be at least 24 years old,
  • and have, or will have, resided in Missouri for one year prior to the April 5, 2022 election.

According to Missouri law, if the number of candidates who have filed for the office is equal to the number of positions in that office to be filled by the election, no election shall be held for such office and the candidate shall assume the responsibilities of their offices at the same time and in the same manner as if they had been elected.

In June 2021, the Governor signed House Bill 271 into law. The new law amended Section 115.127, RSMo. to change the dates for candidate filing in local elections. Candidate filing will open one week earlier and close three weeks earlier than previous elections.
