Kirkwood School District Board of Education Approves Hire of New Executive Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
At the regularly scheduled Kirkwood School District Board of Education meeting on Monday, May 23, the board unanimously approved the recommendation for the hire of Dr. Jeremy Mapp as the Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the Kirkwood School District.
Dr. Mapp currently serves as Director of Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity for Lindbergh Schools. He was previously assistant principal of Keysor Elementary School in KSD, where he led the social-emotional learning work for students and staff with a priority on building relationships. His additional experience as a former elementary and middle school teacher and a house parent at Joe’s Place, a home for homeless teenage boys in the Maplewood Richmond Heights School District, gives him a K-12 perspective of supporting students of diverse backgrounds.
The selection of Dr. Mapp was made based on feedback from a committee of staff, parents, and community members, including those engaged in DEI work within the District.
“I am excited to welcome Dr. Mapp as the next Executive Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for the Kirkwood School District,” said Superintendent David Ulrich. “His past experience, as well as the skills he exhibited during a rigorous interview process, demonstrated that he is the right choice to move us forward as we continue to focus on equity, diversity and inclusion in our District.”
Dr. Mapp earned a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Maryville University, a Master of Arts in Elementary Education and Bachelor of Science in Psychology both from Truman State University.
Dr. Mapp will succeed Dr. Shonda Ambers-Phillips who will be moving on to Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources/Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at the Maplewood-Richmond Heights School District.
